Postdoc position in “Extreme micromechanics of metal micro/nanoparticles” f/m/div
We are looking to hire a Postdoc in the field of Materials Science/Materials Physics/Materials Chemistry to work on the in situ micromechanics of metal and alloy micro/nanoparticles under extreme deformation conditions of high/cryo temperatures and high strain rate inside a scanning electron microscope. Microstructure characterization will be conducted using electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD), transmission Kikuchi diffraction (TKD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. You will disseminate the outcome of your research in the form of scientific publications and present them at international scientific conferences.
Your tasks
You will investigate the mechanical deformation behaviour of single crystal metal/alloy micro/nano particles with a special emphasis on extreme deformation conditions - high/cryo temperatures and high strain rate combinations. You will perform advanced in situ micromechanical experiments inside the scanning electron microscope (SEM) using state-of-the-art nanomechanical testing equipment. In addition, you will be involved in the microstructural characterisation of the deformed samples using techniques such as electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD), transmission Kikuchi diffraction (TKD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). You will disseminate the outcome of your research in the form of scientific publications and present them at international scientific conferences.
**Profile**:
**Postdoc**: You hold a doctoral degree with very good to excellent marks in Materials Science, Material Physics, Materials Chemistry, Nanotechnology or a closely related field. You also have an excellent publication record, focussed primarily on in situ S/TEM techniques and related techniques. You have designed custom experimental setups and are knowledgeable with hands-on methods development for complex in situ experiments. Previous research experience related to in situ SEM and TEM based mechanical/materials science experiments, micro/nanomechanics and small-scale sample preparation/characterization techniques using FIB are highly critical and advantageous.
The working language at our institute is English; excellent proficiency in English to communicate effectively on scientific topics is required.
