Phd/postdoctoral Scientist

The society’s transition to clean energy is inescapable and needs urgent attention from all aspects. Today’s energy process chain from primary energy carrier to final energy use results in a 72% loss after conversion. This loss or untapped potential needs to be harnessed. Thermal batteries provide one such possibility to harness this energy. The project aims to characterize the prototypical solid-state batteries using characterization techniques such as atom probe tomography, transmission electron microscopy, dual beam microscopes etc.

PhD/Postdoctoral scientist (f/m/div) on Advanced Characterization of Hydrogen and Lithium-based batteries

Your tasks

We are looking for a new colleague with a background in materials science and characterization, and with an interest in structure-property correlations.

Your tasks will be:

- Perform battery testing/diffusion of bulk and small-scale samples using the unique infrastructure at the institute.
- Characterization of the material through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning and transmission electron microscope (S/TEM and SEM) based techniques, and atom probe tomography (APT) following focused-ion beam (FIB) based specimen preparation.
- Contribution or leading writing scientific journal articles based on the results, presentation at international conferences etc.

**Profile**:

- Doctoral (for Postdoc) or Masters degree in Material Science or related fields.
- Prior Hands-on experience in electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) and FIB, atom probe tomography, and electrochemistry is desired.
- Excellent written and oral English skills.
- Interest in acquiring new skills and aptitude for problem-solving.
