The University of Passau owes its strong visibility and good repute to excellent research,

The **Chair of Multilingual Computational Linguistics** at the University of Passau was newly
established. Since 1. January 2023, **Prof. Dr. Johann-Mattis List** leads the chair. One of the
concrete goals of the chair for the next five years is to establish a specific infrastructure for the
standardization, curation, and publication of cross-linguistic research data, as well as to design
tools for the analysis of multilingual data to be tested on our data. In the context of these objectives,
starting as soon as possible, we are looking for a
**Research Assistant (Akademische/n Rätin/Rats auf Zeit) (m/w/d),**
hired with a temporary contract limited to 3 years, with the possibility of extension by three more
years after positive evaluation. To be considered for the position, a PhD in computer science or
computational linguistics or general linguistics/comparative linguistics is required, as well as
extended knowledge in the area of scientific and web-based programming with Python and
machine learning. Experience in the development of Open Source software and web administration
is an advantage. The remuneration is in accordance with the A13 pay grade of the German public
- sector collective agreement, TV-L. The possibility to write a habilitation thesis is given.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Teaching in the field of multilingual computational linguistics (5 hours / week / semester).
- Research on relevant topics of multilingual computational linguistics, with a specific focus
on data management and machine learning.
- Assistance in the software projects of the chair, specifically in the development of Cross
- Linguistic Data Formats and the deployment of linguistic data with the help of the CLLD
- Assistance / supervision of colleagues from the chair and collaborating chairs with respect
to questions on programming (organization of workshops, training of student assistants).
**Person Specification**
- PhD in computer science or computational linguistics or general linguistics/comparative
linguistics, as well as extended knowledge in the area of scientific and web-based
programming with Python and machine learning.
- Experience in the development of open source software and the administration of web
- Readiness and willingness to consult students and colleagues from the University of Passau
and from collaborating institutions and to organize regular courses for students and
colleagues of the university.
- Good programming skills, specifically in Python, and the willingness to get to know, to
learn, and to improve the software which our chair develops.
- Very good knowledge of English and German (in speaking and writing).
