**Your Profile**:
- You hold a PhD in materials sciences, materials technology, foundry technology or physics.
- You have an in-depth knowledge of microstructure evolution in alloys, ideally with a focus on aluminium alloys.
- You are able to work well-structured and independently on a research topic.
- You have very good knowledge of German and English both written and orally.
- The ability to work independently, creative and flexible corresponds to your personal work attitude.
- You are a team player and are interested to work in close collaboration with fellow researchers.
**Your Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Within the joint-research project KIMi you are carrying out microstructure analysis of aluminium alloys solidified in the materials science laboratory aboard the International Space Station ISS using e. g. computed tomography, electron and optical microscopy and are digitalising the microstructure as well as programming scripts for an automated analysis.
- The resulst of the classical analytical techniques described are directly used as an input for the development and validation of methods for automated recognition of multiphase complex microstructure patterns using artificial intelligence (AI) as they are developed by our joint-research project partner ACCESS e. V.. You thereby will obtain insight into modern machine learning approaches to materials characterization.
- You are also responsible for writing reports and presenting the research results to external partners both through publications, presentations and oral communication at workshops or international symposia.

The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
