Here at the Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics we are interested in tackling global challenges concerning water, soil, and the environment. We are passionate about creating new knowledge through research and innovation, especially in the development of innovative measurement tools and predictive capabilities that harness the strengths of sensing technologies and big data analytics. We aim to provide accurate and quantitative insights into multiscale and multiphase ecohydrological processes occurring near the Earth's surface. For this, we combine theory, state-of-art modelling and experiments using cutting-edge tools such as high-resolution imaging, satellite remote sensing, artificial intelligence, big data processing, and computational fluid dynamics.
We are looking for a researcher to further innovative research and analysis for a project on soil health and groundwater hydrology amidst environmental changes with emphasis on the lower Elbe river shoreline in Germany
YOUR TASKS
- Conducting independent and international-class research incorporating groundwater hydrology, saltwater intrusion, soil salinity and health
- Combining hydrology, big data and computational tools to advance hydrologic modeling under changing climate and extreme environmental events
- Publishing in peer-reviewed journals and attending scientific meetings and conferences
- Helping with any other research activities as may be deemed necessary by the Head of the Institute
YOUR PROFILE
- MSc degree in environmental engineering, hydrology, geoscience or related disciplines
- Outstanding academic results and recognitions
- Demonstrated experience with computational hydrology
- Previous experience or knowledge about remote sensing, groundwater hydrology and modeling, data mining, geospatial data assimilation will be an advantage
- Excellent communication skills in English (oral / written)
- Good communication skills in German (oral / written)
- Strong interests, motivation and commitment to research and development
- Interest in international exchanges, teamwork and collaboration
