The German Diabetes Center (DDZ), Leibniz Institute for Diabetes Research at the Heinrich Heine University (HHU) Düsseldorf is an interdisciplinary research institute that links basic and clinical sciences to improve prevention, diagnosis and therapy of Diabetes mellitus and its complications. The Institute for Clinical Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry (director: Prof. Dr. Hadi Al-Hasani) investigates the molecular mechanisms of onset and progression of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

Using a positional cloning approach, we have discovered novel genes linked to diabetes and related traits. This project aims to explore the molecular mechanisms connecting these genes to beta cell function and survival. The work utilizes unique mouse models and cell-based assays combined with state-of-the art metabolic phenotyping, non-targeted proteomics and next generation sequencing. with excellent skills, research track record and knowledge in comprehensive analysis of metabolism and cellular signaling to join our international and collaborative team in an outstanding and competitive scientific environment.

**Your tasks**

Plan and conduct experiments using cell culture models (human and rodent primary cells, cell lines) and mouse models for investigating glucose homeostasis and beta cell function.

Analyze and compile your own multiomics data to advance the research hypothesis

**Wir erwarten von Ihnen**:
**Your profile**

PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.

Experience in the study of animal physiology, specifically related to studies using transgenic and knockout models and/or cell culture

Prior experience in research fields related to beta cell biology, proteomics/transcriptomics and large-scale data analysis is not essential, but will be considered an advantage

An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions

Independent and creative thinking

Excellent communication skills in English.

You are a team player and keen to collaborate with computational biologists to propel the project

The position is awarded for 2 years and an extension of the contract period is envisaged.

Salary is regulated by the collective agreement for the civil service of the state (TV-L) in the version valid for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
