The IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine investigates the molecular mechanisms through which particles, radiation and environmental chemicals harm human health. The main working areas are environmentally induced aging of the pulmonary system and the skin as well as disturbances of the nervous and immune system. Through development of novel model systems, the IUF contributes to the improvement of risk assessment and the identification of novel strategies for the prevention / therapy of environmentally induced health damage. The working group “AHR signaling & environmentally-induced skin damage” at the IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine in Düsseldorf is offering a position for a Postdoctoral fellow (f/m/d) in the area of skin cancer biology.
Our research group investigates the biological role of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR)-dependent signaling pathways in the skin. The main focus of the research is to elucidate new functions of AHR in the stress response of cutaneous cells exposed to UV radiation and ubiquitous environmental pollutants. We aim to identify novel molecular targets for the development of preventive and therapeutic measures against environmentally induced skin diseases. Currently, we are looking for reinforcement for a DFG-funded project aiming to unravel the role of AHR in skin photocarcinogenesis, more precisely in the malignant transformation of UV radiation-damaged keratinocytes.
