W2-professorship (M/F/d) Social Geography of Tourism

Trier University can be characterized as a young campus university with a focus on the humanities and

a large international network. With currently around 11.000 students and 2.000 employees, the

University is one of the largest employers in the region. The Faculty of Spatial and Environmental

Sciences seeks to fill the following post as soon as possible:
W2-Professorship in Social Geography of Tourism

(LBesG) (m/w/d)

as identified above. We are looking for an outstanding scholar in the field of social geography and

tourism studies to contribute to the further development of current human geography debates through

empirically focused work in tourism. The post holder’s expertise should be based on theory led analyses

internationally recognized scholars in at least one of the following areas: (i) fragility and vulnerability of

tourism systems, (ii) processes of space making related to tourism, (iii) constructivist, post
- and

decolonial perspectives of tourism. A theory-led approach to the development of touristic spaces and

landscapes is desired. The research should provide synergies to existing research in geography and

demonstrate their research expertise through a national and international publication and research track

record including successful acquisition of external funding. The post holder will provide stimuli for a

future-oriented development of a critical human geography in the Department which is to be evidenced

in the research and teaching concepts.

Teaching will involve introductory and advanced human geography modules within the Bachelor and

Master geography programmes (B.A. Tourism Geography, B.Sc. Geography, B.Ed. Geography, M.A.

for students and, therefore, expect strong presence of teaching staff at the University. Trier University

aims to increase the quota of women in research and teaching, and encourages female academics to
