Chair in Medieval History with a focus on Jewish History, J.Prof. Dr. Andreas Lehnertz) as of October 1,

**These tasks await you**

In accordance with - 57 (1) and (4) of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate’s Higher Education Act

(HochSchG), you will pursue your own further academic qualification in terms of a doctoral dissertation

(PhD) on a topic in medieval history, preferably in the field of Jewish history or interreligious relations in

the Middle Ages; assist the Assistant Professor of Medieval History with a focus on Jewish history in his

tasks; take on teaching duties with an average of 2 hours per semester (2 SWS).

**What we expect from you**

The requirements for employment derive from - 57 (2) and (3) of the RPL Higher Education Act. In
particular, we ask for an above-average academic university degree in the field of history or a related
to conduct interdisciplinary and international work; you are committed and a team player; you enjoy
organizing and contributing; you have a very good command of English and experience in dealing with
medieval sources in their original languages.

As part of your qualification (doctorate), you will receive intensive supervision for your doctoral project.

At the University of Trier and specifically at the Arye Maimon Institute for the History of the Jews (AMIGJ),

you will be integrated into a team of specialists in Jewish history as well as the Middle Ages more broadly;
on site, you will have access to excellent library facilities, with holdings on Jewish history (AMIGJ) and

medieval history more generally (Trier University Library, among others). You will have the opportunity

to work in a team with a strong international network, which participates in conferences abroad and also

regularly hosts conferences at its home institution. You will find a pleasant atmosphere in a motivating

work environment. You will be provided with your own office and computer, as well as access to the

University’s extensive training program geared towards the needs of graduate and doctoral students.

**About the Junior Chair for Medieval History with a focus on Jewish History**

The task of the professorship is to strengthen the internationally renowned research center for Jewish

history established in Trier, through research (including research funded by external research grants),

teaching medieval history at Trier University in a broader sense, to ensure a sound education of students

in all bachelor and master programs.
