The Max-Planck-Institute for Neurobiology of Behaviour - caesar (MPINB) is a neuroethology institute located in Bonn that studies how the collective activity of the vast numbers of interconnected neurons in the brain gives rise to the plethora of animal behaviors. Our research spans a large range of scales from the nano-scale imaging of brain circuitry, to large-scale functional imaging of brain circuitry during behavior, to the quantification of natural animal behaviors.

The Max Planck Research Group Neural Circuits of Dr. Johannes Seelig investigates the dynamics of neural circuits underlying behavior in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. For this group we are looking for a

for computational modeling
(M/F/div)

**Job Description**:
We are looking for a highly motivated student interested in developing computational models for describing cellular dynamics in the brain.

What we expect from you
- You have a computational background, such as physics, biophysics, mathematics, engineering, computer science or related fields. A background in neuroscience is not required.
- Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python or Matlab) and computational modeling
- Good knowledge of differential equations
- Familiarity with or interest in fields such as control theory, reinforcement learning, or nonlinear dynamics
- Interest in reading the relevant literature for relating the modeling approach to existing work and data
- Interest in neurobiology and in interacting with members of the team to address questions underlying the workings of biological circuits in the brain
- You are located in the Bonn area, this position requires working at the institute (not remotely)
