- The EU-funded cooperation project "Resettlement - Living Situation in the First Country of Refuge and Germany" of the Research Center of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF-FZ) and the University of Bielefeld aims to gain insights into the living situation of potential and actual resettlement refugees. In Bielefeld, the focus will be on questions of participation and integration opportunities in the countries of first refuge (CFR). For this purpose, an online survey for refugees in the CFR will be developed, fieldwork will be monitored, and the collected data will be analyzed. It is possible to integrate own research interests into the survey and subsequent analyses. In addition, data on refugees in the CFR will be compared with data on resettled refugees in Germany, which will be collected in a survey conducted by the BAMF-FZ. The results of the surveys will be published in reports and academic papers. At Bielefeld University, the project is part of the research group "Methods of Empirical Social Research with a Focus on Quantitative Methods" (Prof. Dr. Martin Kroh).- Your Tasks
- Project-related tasks (100 %)
- preparation and monitoring of the primary data collection (e.g. creation of the questionnaire, supporting the programming of the online survey, pretest evaluation & monitoring of the running survey)
- coordination with the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and the survey institute
- analysis of the data collected as part of the survey with the aim of gaining robust insights regarding the living situations of resettlement refugees in the countries of first refuge in comparison to resettlement refugees in Germany
- publication of the results of the surveys both in the form of reports and in international scientific journals
- participation in national and international conferences
- collaborative research and publications at Bielefeld University and with the BAMF
- regular project meetings on site in Bielefeld
Employment is conducive to scientific qualification (postdoc, doctorate).
In case of a structured doctorate (e.g. at the "Bielefeld Graduate School of History and Sociology" (BGHS)) the position would have to be reduced to 75% of the full-time position due to funding regulations.

We expect
- scientific degree (e. g. Diploma, Master) iin sociology, political science, psychology, human geography or other related disciplines
- very good knowledge of the topics of migration and integration
- very good knowledge of quantitative survey methods
- good knowledge of quantitative analysis methods
- good knowledge of statistical software (preferably Stata)
- good written and spoken German language skills
- independent & autonomous way of working
- Preferred experience and skills
- interest in an academic career - in the case of non-doctoral applicants, interest in a doctorate
- very good knowledge in the field of refugees & resettlement
- experience in conducting large-scale surveys
- scientific publications on the topics of migration and integration (ideally with reference to refugees & resettlement)
- very good knowledge of "Respondent Driven Sampling" (RDS)
- very good knowledge of statistical matching procedures for the comparison of different (sub-)populations
- very good written and spoken German and English skills
