- The project "Social security in a crisis mode" (Soziale Sicherung im Krisenmodus/SoSiKri) is led by Dr. John Berten and is part of the working group "German and Transnational Social Policy" (Prof. Dr. Alexandra Kaasch) at the Faculty of Sociology. SoSiKri explores the influence of scenarios of ecological crises on social policy institutions and (reform) processes. The researcher's task is to investigate the global spread of reform proposals of social security systems. To do so, the researcher will do a mapping (regional emphases, chronological phases, "best practices") and a typology of reform proposals. The project collects empirical data, and uses quantitative (large-n) methods.- Your Tasks
- Collecting data on crisis-induced reform proposals worldwide; constructing a database (25%)
- Data analysis (using quantitative methods) of the global spread of crisis-induced reform proposals of social security systems; constructing a typology of variants of reform proposals (25%)
- Writing papers on preliminary and final results of the project, and publishing them in scientific journals or edited volumes (20%)
- Literature review: (crisis-induced) reform proposals of social security systems worldwide; quantitative methods, and social policy research (10%)
- Cooperating with the project team, e.g. through joint meetings: preparation and presentation of preliminary and final project results; participating in discussions and collaborations with project members and external researchers (10%)
- Constructing the large-n research design (5%)
- Participating in conferences and workshops in Germany and abroad: presentation of preliminary and final project results to a scientific and expert audience (5%)

We expect
- scientific university degree (Master, Magister, Diplom, Erstes Staatsexamen or equivalent) in political science, sociology, law (with a focus on social legislation) or similar fields that have a particular focus on social policy
- good command of written and spoken English
- knowledge of global social policy and governance, and social policy in the Global South
- excellent knowledge of scientific standards: literature reviews, dealing with scientific sources
