To complement this team, we are looking for a motivated Student Research Assistant with machine learning experience

**Working field**:

- The Center for Humans and Machines (CHM) at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin conducts interdisciplinary science to understand, anticipate, and shape major disruptions from digital media and Artificial Intelligence to the way we think, learn, work, play, cooperate, and govern. Our goal is to understand how machines are shaping human society today and how they may continue to shape it in the future. The Center is comprised of an interdisciplinary, international, and diverse group of scholars, and a science support team.
To complement this team, we are looking for a motivated Student Research Assistant who is comfortable working at the intersection of computer science and social sciences. In close collaboration with researchers of the center, you will develop, adapt and integrate generative machine learning models which we then intend to use in experiments involving human participants. Depending on your personal interest and skills, the work could also involve experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis.

**Requirements**:

- Your responsibilities
- Develop, adapt, and integrate generative machine learning models (e.g. large language models)
- Assess both quantitative and qualitative aspects of model performance
- Train, deploy and manage models on our in-house computing cluster
- Conduct thorough literature reviews, identifying, categorizing, and summarizing relevant research findings
- Engage in regular discussions and presentations of your work within the research team, contributing to the overall understanding of the project's progress and goals

**Profile**:

- Currently enrolled in a Master's program at a German university, pursuing cognitive science, computer science, physics, or a related field
- Proficiency with deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, Jax and Hugging Face
- Solid understanding of supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques in machine learning
- Demonstrated experience in data processing, statistical methods, and data visualization using R or Python
- Familiarity with generative neural networks like language models or text-to-image systems is highly desirable
- A keen interest in exploring behavioral aspects of human-AI interactions
