At the Georg-August-University Göttingen - Department of Physics, within the Complex Thin Film Systems / Advanced Epitaxy group of the Institute of Materials Physics, there is a position to be filled:
**Research assistant (f/m/d) **on

**“Stabilizing the growth of epitaxial ferrimagnetic double perovskites”**

The position can be started
**as soon as possible **and is limited

**Your tasks and duties**:
This position is part of a DFG project (December 2019 - November 2023). The key research goal is to stabilize the growth of the double perovskite by adjusting the cationic ratio and by reducing the cations to the required electronic states for the intrinsic ferrimagnetic coupling. You will use hybrid molecular beam epitaxy-pulsed laser deposition for the growth of materials.

In this project, we are aiming at superlattices of perovskite oxides (ABO3/AˈBˈO3). A proper choice of A-site cations and anion-substituted perovskite produce improper ferroelectricity originating from the A-site and the anion-site, respectively. Together with the ferromagnetism originating from B-site, this infers multiferroicity in (ABO3/AˈBˈO3). The growth of the epitaxial thin films and the atom-by-atom control of their functionality is a challenging, yet interesting task. Along with the use of the state-of-the-art deposition technique, you will also use many modern materials characterization tools.

**Complex Thin Film Systems / Advanced Epitaxy **’ (Prof. Dr. Jasnamol Palakkal) is to produce high-quality epitaxial complex thin films using methods like hybrid MBE-PLD, and metal-organic aerosol deposition. Along with the synthesis of the thin films, the structure-property relationship in terms of functional properties like magnetic, multiferroics, optoelectronics, and photo/electrochemical activities comes under the span of the research group.

**Preferred Experiences (experiments, data collection, and analysis)**
- Thin film growth by pulsed laser deposition or molecular beam epitaxy
- Structural characterization of materials by XRD, XPS, etc.
- Magnetic characterization by SQUID or VSM
