- The Translational Lung Research Center Heidelberg (TLRC), a member of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), comprises established and internationally-renowned research groups working in respiratory research at Heidelberg University, Heidelberg University Hospital, the Thoraxklinik at Heidelberg University Hospital, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the EMBL Heidelberg. This Junior Research Group Leader position offers an exceptional opportunity to undertake high quality research within an outstanding academic and clinical environment. Using translational research methods, the TLRC seeks to develop new approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and management of lung diseases complicated by infection, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis, adult and pediatric acute respiratory failure, lung fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The Group Leader will receive annual funds for their own position and one doctoral student as well as consumables. Appropriate and well-equipped laboratory facilities will be provided by the hosting departments. The TLRC and DZL research networks provide access to multiple state-of-the-art technologies located at the five DZL campuses in Germany. The position is initially available for 4 years; extension of the appointment is possible and dependent on the success of the Junior Research Group within the first funding period.

**Your Tasks**:

- The successful applicant will head a Junior Research Group jointly embedded within the Department of Translational Pulmonology (Director Prof. Dr. Rory E. Morty) and the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene (Director Prof. Dr. Alexander Dalpke).
- The applicant will be responsible for the coordination of basic and clinical research that complements and integrates into the overall research concept of the TLRC and DZL.
- The intended research line of the Junior Research Group should have some focus on lung-microbiota interactions.
**Your Profile**:

- A strong publication record in international journals and evidence of the successful procurement of third-party funding in the field of respiratory research is required. Effort to procure third party funding and willingness to participate in other collaborative research projects is expected.
- Furthermore, the applicant should have experience in the training of research fellows, technicians and MD as well as PhD students.
- Specific research experience in single-cell genomics, RNA-Seq, epigenomics or proteomics applied to studies of the lung, and/or metagenomic analyses applied to microbiota studies would be advantageous.
- While knowledge of the German language is not mandatory, excellent written and spoken English skills are required.
