Ship Agents are the local experts to arrange smoothest cargo operations and all other services that are relevant for a ship. The Ship Agent is acting as the local representative of the charterer and/ or ship manager/ owner and is so the central contact point with any terminal, port authorities, local vendors and all other parties – international and locally.
The work of a ship agent is never boring as it’s covering full spectrum of request from the clients starting with routine work but also including huge amount of special task. Even if the main business is taking place during office hours still the industry is running 24/7/365 and so is also the Team of a Ship Agency always on shared duty if needed. Due to modern technics the main work can be done from the desk and via phone however a ship agent can still enjoy going into the ports and on board the ships.
The role:
Covering all German ports incl Kiel Canal together with our team and partners
Port clearance of various vessel types from tramp to liner shipping (container, tanker, dry bulk, general cargo, RoRo)
Organisation of various services for vessel owners (e.g. crew changes, medical assistance, spares/ stores, repairs, dry dock, bunkering, etc.)
Issuing cargo documents and other required documentation
Arranging customs declaration of non-EU Cargo (ENS)
financial tasks plus calculation of commercial and husbandry pro-forma costs
Your Profile:
Mid-level training completed, preferably shipping-related (nautical/ technical/ logistical/ commercial)
strong communication and organizational skills
ability to multitask and prioritize
Communicative skills in the German and English language (fluent spoken and written); other languages are also welcome
flexible, independent and able to handle working to a crucial deadline
happy to work in a team but also independently
in possession of a drivers’ license and living near Hamburg
Open to work partly in shifts and travel to the ports/ going on board ships
