The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology aims to decipher disease mechanisms to restore the function of diseased organs, particularly the heart. Utilizing various in vitro and in vivo models, we investigate pathophysiological molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways underlying cardiovascular diseases, thereby developing new targets for clinical translation. Our research activities span various fascinating areas of pharmacology, ranging from substance testing to the production of therapeutic antibodies in tobacco plants. Our focus areas include phenotyping diseases related to cardiovascular dysfunctions, metabolic disorders, and cancer, investigating the connections between natriuretic peptides and immunological mechanisms, and exploring the role of sheddases in the immune response post-infarction. Additionally, we concentrate on innovative approaches such as biopharming for sustainable production of pharmaceutical proteins and utilize state-of-the-art methods for drug validation and safety assessment.

Starting at the next possible time, we are looking for a

Postdoctoral Fellow / Junior Group Leader (f/m/x)

in a full time position. This position is initially limited to 24 months, with remuneration according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the States (TV-L), entailing possible placement in pay group E13 TV-L contingent upon personal qualifications.

We seek to appoint a postdoctoral researcher / junior group leader with a strong background in translational research in cardiovascular diseases. The research field should align with the profile of the institute, which focuses on translational and basic research in the field of immunological mechanisms in heart disease and the development of novel innovative therapeutic concepts. We are open to applicants coming from other fields of civilization-related diseases such as diabetes, obesity or cancer, with the requirement / precondition to align their strategy complementary / co-operative to the established research groups. Competitive applicants are expected to use state-of-the-art pre-clinical models and should have an exceptional track record of accomplishment, with evident future potential and commitment to translational research. The successful applicant is expected to significantly advance the Institute's research in the field of basic molecular and immunological research of cardiovascular diseases and/or in the development of novel treatment concepts (e.g. cell therapies) for cardiovascular and related diseases.

Your profile:

  • candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in medicine or natural science
  • publication record that is internationally competitive for their stage of the career
  • postdoctoral experience is preferred, but is not mandatory
  • the successful candidate is expected to acquire competitive national and international third-party research funding
