Join our team at EMBL-EBI Hinxton (UK) or EMBL Heidelberg (Germany) and play a pivotal role in transforming financial management information and systems in a leading multinational research organisation. As a Finance Business Analyst, you will leverage your expertise in IT and finance to enhance our financial reporting and decision-making processes.

This is a pan-EMBL role and you will be part of our Finance team which is based in both EMBL-EBI Hinxton (UK) and EMBL Heidelberg (Germany), working very collaboratively across sites. This role can be located at either EMBL-EBI site in Hinxton, UK, or at the EMBL Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany.

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a non-profit, Intergovernmental Organisation funded by 29 member states and 1 associate member state. EMBL has around 1,900 members of personnel from over 80 nations based across its six sites: the headquarters in Heidelberg (Germany), the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) in Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Rome (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).

Your Role

As a finance oriented business and systems analyst in a multinational research organisation, the role is to work with the experienced Financial Management Consultant to develop and enhance the financial management information reporting required for decision making.

Leveraging your IT expertise, particularly in databases, systems integration and data manipulation, you and the Financial Management Consultant in consultation with key EMBL stakeholders will work to create financial management reports for decision makers.

This will require collaboration and consensus building with various departments, analysis of data to calculate costings, identify trends, forecast performance, and drive efficient resource allocation.

You will need to be able to build strong relationships, foster collaboration and facilitating consensus-building across teams.

You Have

  • Qualified or Part Qualified accountant or other relevant financial qualification
  • Qualified by extensive experience will also be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of developing and manipulating data sets/data bases.
  • Understanding of finance systems and their key controls that ensure data integrity.
  • Word / Excel / Powerpoint
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Data manipulation and integration expertise
  • Mid size finance system knowledge
  • Implementation of finance systems experience
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to build consensus amongst stakeholders with differing priorities
  • Ability and willingness to communicate with a broad range of diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to write reports and present financial updates
  • An ability to discuss and highlight issues with stakeholders to help solve problems as they arise

You might also have

  • Project and ERP rollout experience
  • SAP or Workday or similar experience of using financial systems

  • Contract duration: This position is a 2-year fixed-term project-limited contract to work on the financial management reporting project.
  • Job location: This role can be based in EMBL Heidelberg (Germany) or in EMBL-EBI Hinxton, (near Cambridge, UK). You will be required to relocate if you are based overseas and you will receive a generous relocation package to support you.
