The Amazon EUSC Material Flow Optimization (MFO) Team is in search of a skilled technical leader with vast experience leading continuous improvement projects by applying planning and engineering principles to operations. This role also involves developing and executing process enhancement initiatives within the logistics and distribution sector. As an MFO Operations Engineer, you will collaborate with multiple teams and diverse stakeholders, including operations, network planning, labor planning, and service performance, to design and enhance our Sort Centers material flow processes, while challenging the current operational standards. In this position, you will have the chance to showcase your expertise in the following areas:
  • Floor layout design and implementation.
  • Application of engineering principles, process development, and operational enhancement.
  • Analysis of operations to optimize and design new tools using simulation, modeling, and planning.
  • Building strong relationships across peer organizations to advance our business goals.
  • Managing complex projects efficiently while exhibiting exceptional business acumen.
  • Establishing business models to track long-term improvements.
  • Evaluating process enhancement opportunities and collaborating with process owners and stakeholders to define objectives, structure projects, and teams.
  • Training, coaching, and mentoring field Operations teams to equip them with the necessary tools and systems to meet daily business requirements.
Our MFO Operations Engineers work collaboratively across the organization to find solutions to complex issues and are expected to innovate to ensure an excellent experience for our customers. To achieve this, strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making are essential. You will lead initiatives with your team that will significantly impact the growth of our business. The ideal candidates are effective leaders, excellent communicators, and consistently deliver results. You should possess the experience and skills to create and present documentation for senior executives, aligning your plans with Amazon's strategic direction. Proficiency in analyzing root causes, implementing sustainable solutions, and leading teams with advanced analytical capabilities is crucial. The role may involve up to 30% travel.Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the operational experience and efficiency.
  • Conduct process audits for compliance and address any identified gaps.
  • Utilize feedback and data to drive and implement process enhancements at the site.
  • Collaborate with Ops customers and stakeholders to identify and resolve process-related challenges.
A Typical DayYour responsibilities will include conducting observations and audits to identify areas for process improvement. Additionally, you will propose changes and leverage your project and stakeholder management skills to implement new processes. You will be stationed at one of our sites and tasked with positively influencing operational efficiency. When necessary, you may conduct analyses at other local or national sites. This role offers the opportunity to share best practices and insights across our EU network, driving improvements through data and expanding our shipping capabilities.About the TeamThe Amazon Transportation Service (ATS) team is essential for Amazon's swift deliveries. As a part of ATS, you will join a diverse team that plays a key role in our success. Utilizing air, sea, and road transport, along with technologically advanced sortation centers, you will help optimize Amazon's transportation operations. The team utilizes data to make informed decisions, contributing to Amazon's innovation and efficiency.Safety is our top priority, and our team's expertise ensures that packages reach their destinations effectively.We are considering candidates for roles at the following locations:Witten, NW, DEUBASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • A degree in business, supply chain, transportation, economics, or a technical field.
  • Relevant experience in supply chain, transportation, project management, or management consulting.
  • Experience in project management or management consulting handling multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
  • Experience in communicating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
  • Fluency in English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPreferred qualifications are not mandatory to apply at Amazon if you meet all the basic requirements listed above. We welcome candidates who:
  • Hold an MBA from an accredited university.
  • Possess management experience in operations within logistics, distribution, or transportation.
  • Have experience in developing or implementing Automation and Material Handling solutions.
  • Are familiar with optimization solvers/tools (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi, AMPL, Xpress) and advanced simulation modeling tools (e.g., Flexsim, Arena, Simio).
  • Have expertise in Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies.
  • Have worked with supporting tools such as Minitab, JMP, MS Excel, and MS Access.
