Data Steward / Bioinformatician for the Munich Data Science Institute
Are you passionate about the intersection of data science, bioinformatics, and cutting-edge technologies? The Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the German Human Genome-Phenome Archive (GHGA) are seeking a talented and driven individual to join our dynamic team. As a Data Steward/Bioinformatician, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of biomedical data storage, analysis, and dissemination using state-of-the-art cloud technologies and workflows. The MDSI, located at TUM, is an interdisciplinary institute with a cross-faculty focus on data science and machine learning. In collaboration with GHGA, a national network of secure data centers for archiving and processing human genome sequencing and other omics data, we are reshaping the way biomedical data is stored, analyzed, and disseminated. The GHGA team at TUM hosted by the Chair of Computational Molecular Medicine is embedded into the local research community but also is fostering collaborations within the national and international consortia such as nf-core or EGA.
As an MDSI member, you will organize hackathons and workshops and provide support for diverse research data management activities and clusters within the TUM. Your expertise and active engagement with the local research community will contribute to the strategic development of future services at the university where you will contribute to support and consultation on projects requiring research data management expertise. Proficiency in utilizing the OpenStack platform to adapt and deploy the GHGA software stack
Familiarity with methodologies and tools relevant to bioinformatics and research data management
Knowledge of Linux system administration and containerization technology
Effective communication (in English) and interpersonal skills to engage with the local research community and contribute to strategic planning, writing, and consultation tasks
University master degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related subjects

The full-time position is funded through the DFG for 1 year until the end of the funding period (30 September 2025) with a salary according to the TV-L (German academic salary scale).
