Sustainability is gaining increasing acceptance due to social demands for more ecological and recyclable products. In the automotive industry, too, this trend has long been part of the strategic orientation and is anchored in the sustainability goals of the companies. Mercedes-Benz AG, for example, has drawn up a roadmap with Ambition 9, according to which it will produce all vehicles in all stages of the value chain in a CO2-neutral manner by 9.
In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, however, increasing the proportion of recycled materials is also part of this strategy in order to reduce future dependencies on third countries and volatile markets. The overarching goal is the implementation of a circular economy (CE), whereby materials and material flows are recycled indefinitely instead of accumulating as waste at the end of their life cycle as in the linear economy.
Design for recycling, i.e. the design of products for dismantling and recycling, is considered an enabler for a CE. Particularly in the area of the electric drive train (eATS for short) in battery electric vehicles, this consideration offers a major lever due to the valuable elements and materials, for example the (heavy) rare earths in NdFeB magnets.
As part of a master's thesis, the requirements for a design suitable for disassembly are to be investigated and documented using an example motor. The documentation includes a user-friendly preparation for the development of eATS in the pre-series phase (e.g. based on VDI1) and suggestions for including the content in future specifications.

Qualifikationen Degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable course of study Sound specialist knowledge in the field of electric motors and gearboxes Good knowledge of Siemens NX (or comparable CAD software) and Microsoft Office Ability to work in a team, above-average commitment, initial project experience High flexibility and willingness to familiarize yourself with all topics in the field of electric motors and alternative powertrains is expected Good knowledge of English Structured and solution-oriented way of workingFurther conditions
