Bioinformatician – Translational Cancer Genomics

Job description:
  • Analysis of NGS data, especially WES and RNA sequencing in clinical studies
  • Analysis of study needs and translation of biomedical research questions into bioinformatics projects
  • Design, implementation, and deployment of omics data analysis workflows and results reporting, selecting and benchmarking methods and tools
  • Development of innovative approaches for the analysis and integration of omics data where existing methods are not adequate
  • Presentation of results, writing publications and grant proposals, guidance and support of PhD and Master students

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or related disciplines, preferably with some years of post-degree work experience as a bioinformatician; a relevant PhD is an advantage
  • Sound experience in cancer genomics desired, good understanding of proteomics data is a strong plus
  • Demonstrated ability to perform reproducible data analysis needed, in-depth understanding of the relevant processes and technologies like workflow and tool management, data provenance, and quality control required
  • A good understanding of multivariate statistics needed; experience with data visualization, data mining, and machine learning is highly appreciated
  • Excellent programming skills, Python or R, are required, Bash is a strong plus; demonstrated ability to produce well-designed and documented code, proficiency in using Git is a plus
  • Proficiency working in a Linux environment needed; experience with HPC is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English needed; knowledge of German is a plus
  • Team- and goal-oriented, self-motivated work style is expected; practical experience working in interdisciplinary teams centered on a biomedical or clinical question is a strong plus
