The Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT is part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Headquartered in Ilmenau, Germany, the institute is internationally recognized for its expertise in applied electroacoustics and audio engineering, AI-based signal analysis and machine learning, and data privacy and security. At the headquarters, on the campus of “Technische Universität Ilmenau” researchers work on technologies for robust, trustworthy AI-based analysis and classification of audio and video data. These are used, among other things, to monitor industrial production processes, but also in traffic monitoring or in the media context, for example when it comes to automatic metadata extraction and audio manipulation detection. Another focus is the development of algorithms for the areas of virtual product development, intelligent actuator-sensor systems and audio for the automotive sector.
There are currently around 120 employees working at Fraunhofer IDMT in Ilmenau.
 

The "Semantic Music Technologies" group develops methods and software solutions for robust, AIbased detection and analysis of music and audio data, which are used in broadcasting and music production as well as for acoustic monitoring of environmental sounds such as urban noise or animal sounds.

 

What you will do

  • research and development of algorithms and AI models for music generation and the detection thereof
  • evaluation and further development of pre-existing AI models for music generation
  • development and presentation of demonstrators and prototypes
  • support in preparation of grant proposals
  • publication of research results and presentation at conferences
  • supervision of student internships and final theses

 

What you bring to the table

  • completed scientific studies (Masters, Diploma) in computer science or a comparable course of study
  • at least 2 years of working experience post-graduation in a related field
  • experience with
    • audio signal processing
    • deep learning
    • AI-based generation
  • experience working with large amounts of data
  • preferable, but not required:
    • PhD in related field
    • experience with deep learning for audio or time series data
    • experience with audio or music generation
    • experience with listening tests
  • motivation, initiative, flexibility, and willingness to perform  
  • a strong independence and reliability as well as a thorough way of working 
  • enjoying interdisciplinary cooperation and being willing to take on responsibility 
  • good communication skills
  • analytical, structured and output-driven working style
  • very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken
  • at least basic knowledge of German and motivation to learn

The weekly working time is 29.25 hours. This position is limited to 2 years.
