The research group ‘Eco-Evolutionary Dynamics’ at the Department of Evolutionary and Integrative Ecology of IGB located in Berlin-Friedrichshagen at Lake Müggelsee is looking for a student assistant to contribute to morphological identification of protozoan field samples from ponds in Berlin starting earliest from 15/09/2024, initially with a contract of three months, but with the possibility of prolonging the contract up to one year.
The position is embedded within a larger project focusing on biodiversity changes to urban pollution in Berlin. You will learn unique skills regarding preparation of identification samples and morphological identification of ciliates. The position is part of a larger group within IGB, and the student will get the opportunity to interact with IGB scientists within and beyond the host group. The work can be combined with a master's research project or master's thesis.
Your tasks- Preparation of identification samples (e.g., quantitative protagol staining, ...)
- Morphological identification of stained ciliates via microscopy
- Support protozoan culture maintenance
- Master student in Biology, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology or related field
- Experience with general laboratory work and working in fume hood
- Experience with microscope is an advantage
- High reliability and diligence
- Eye for detail
- Highly motivated
- Being comfortable to communicate in English

The position will be paid with 13,69€ per hour. It is a part-time position with a maximum up to 19h/week - depending on your availability. We foster a flexible schedule with working time that can be spread over 3-5 days, depending on your availability. The position is available initially from 15.09.2024.
