About the Role


As a Freelance Lecturer, your main responsibility is to teach students about database engineering best practices, for example, by holding a series of workshops and/or lectures. 
In particular, it is expected that you will help students to engage with and learn about:  

  • Common pitfalls in early-stage database designs
  • Database query performance analysis & optimization
  • Database operations
     
The primary scope of this role is to support students in their learning experience and run assessments at the end of the semester.
  General informationThis position is available starting summer of 2024 with a flexible starting time. The Autumn semester runs from August to December 2024, and the classes are intended to take place during that period on our campus in Neukölln.  About You
  • You have general knowledge and practical experience with software engineering.
  • You have practical experience with database engineering, preferably for more than one of the following databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, SQL Server, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, Neo4J, Redis, Cassandra, OrientDB or ArangoDB,
  • You ideally currently work in the field as a database engineer or have recently done so.
  • You have experience as a workshop leader or teacher.
  • You are comfortable communicating and teaching in English.
  • You are ready to collaborate, communicate, and teach online.
  • You thrive in an international environment.

Commitment & Expectations
  • This role is considered to be for a minimum of 1 semester (Autumn 2024). Classes and assessments are expected to take place sometime between September and December. After the first semester, there may be a possibility of extending the contract for future semesters.
  • You can freely decide on the format of your teaching. For example, it can range from a weekly 90-minute time slot to a once-off two-day workshop to anything else.
  • The timing of your teaching is highly flexible. There are some specific constraints (e.g., university-wide events or other related classes), but you are generally free to choose your timing. Classes generally take place Monday-Thursdays between 9:00 and 18:00.
  • As a freelancer, you will be offered a salary of 50 € per hour.
