Position Summary:
The Academic Administrator works directly with the Site Director, Assistant Director for Academics, the Academic Advisor, and the German Language Coordinator to promote academic life for students and lecturers and ensure that they feel they belong to the NYU Berlin academic community. This entails helping create and carry out the academic orientation program for students, planning extra-curricular activities and events based on student requests or current developments, upholding NYU’s academic policies, monitoring students’ progress, and advising students with a range of academic questions or concerns. The Academic Administrator also provides support to freelance lecturers and academic staff by advising them on the use of teaching technology and NYU student and academic culture. Moreover, the Academic Administrator provides administrative support to the Site Director and the Assistant Director for Academics and aids in the production of written academic communication, documents, and presentations.

**Academic Life (25%)**:

- Co-design and co-deliver the academic orientation program for newly arrived students.
- Assist with planning the extra-curricular Berlin Communities series.
- Help with running other extra-curricular activities and assess whether additional events are needed in response to student requests or current developments.
- Accompany students on extra-curricular day
- or overnight trips.
- Identify academic speakers for guest lectures with a particular focus on GIDBEA.
- Explore ideas for exchanges and cooperation with local students and universities.
- Assist NYU students who are taking courses at our partner institution Humboldt University.
- Organize information sessions on taking classes at Humboldt University and tours of the Humboldt University library.
- Contribute academic-themed items to the newsletter Berliner Brief and Instagram, in particular in relation to important historical anniversaries, public holidays or current events.

**Academic Support of Lecturers (25%)**:

- Advise new lecturers on NYU student and academic culture.
- Support lecturers having challenging conversations with students.
- Promote exchange with lecturers and among lecturers, as well as a sense of community among faculty as a whole.

**Academic Support of Students (25%)**:

- Work with NYU's electronic student registry (adhering to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and FERPA requirements).
- Assist students with academic related questions.
- Uphold NYU's academic policies and monitor students' progress, including attendance records of students.
- Assist in the provision of academic support to students with disabilities and with accommodations from NYU's Moses Center.
- In collaboration with the Student Life team, act as a liaison for the Wasserman Center, communicate Wasserman events to students, arrange a career event for students, inform students about scholarships and opportunities to return to Germany for work or study after their degree.
- Act as a liaison for NYU Berlin’s placement agency (Cultural Vistas) and all students completing internships for credit at NYU Berlin, in collaboration with the instructors for the Experiential Learning courses and the Global Liberal Studies program.

**Support for Classes (15%)**:

- Help proofread 30 to 40 course syllabi per semester.
- Assist in the processing of student evaluations of courses.

**Administrative (10%)**:

- Provide administrative support to the Site Director and Assistant Director for Academics and the Academic Advisor.
- Coordinate faculty and other visits from New York and other Academic Centers by serving as a liaison.
- Maintain the academic aspects of NYU Berlin’s website (NYU's version of CMS) with the help of other staff.
- Edit NYU Berlin publications.

Qualifications:
**Required Education**
- Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree.

**Required Experience**
- Experience in producing and editing texts in English (such as handbooks, newsletters, etc.).
- A minimum of three years prior experience working in a research/academic environment.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- A valid work permit for Germany through the end of the contract.
- Fluency in German and English.
- Excellent intercultural and interpersonal communication skills.
- Service excellence and delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Strong ability to prioritize and multi-task with a creative approach to problem-solving.
- Genuine interest in getting to know a very diverse set of international students and faculty every semester.
- High level of flexibility and attention to detail.
- Strong sense of teamwork as well as the ability to work independently.
- Ability to work on a few Saturdays per year.
- Familiarity with presentation/classroom/office technology.
- Familiarity with macOS, Microsoft Windows, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office.
