GERICS develops science-based prototype products and services in support to government, administration and business in their efforts to adapt to climate change. It builds up a national and international network structure in order to integrate existing competences and knowledge, and to link various actors within the complex area of climate change.
The goal of the CoCareSociety project is to understand the interrelations between climate change, long-term care, health, and well-being of the elderly, and their energy efficiency in the living environment and how changes can be induced in the interconnected systems to maximise health-climate-energy nexus outcomes for co-creating a friendly, climate-resilient, affordable, environmental society for the future society.
This research position will expand the energy management field by incorporating future climate information to focus on the health benefits as the core outcomes to calculate energy saving potential and contribution to climate mitigation and adaptation goals as economic benefits. This candidate will apply business management and innovation research in interdisciplinary interface of energy, health, and climate to examine how to increase uptake and transformation in society. The candidate will apply the three information of energy, health, and climate services and apply in real-life cases to showcase the energy saving potentials and health co-benefits of mitigation and adaptation measures. And how the best practices and success stories could be transferred across sectors and regions.
Your tasks
Develop a prototype of energy-health-climate auditing method and calculation tools for considering of future climatic change, future energy demands and pricing development scenarios, and health and wellbeing conditions, behaviours of the residents in accordance with housing characteristics. Develop of new concept and method integrating health-climate-energy finance management plan for sustainable care economy (e.g. how to invest now to gain long-term returns in health, climate change, and energy). Co-develop actionable win-win measures with stakeholders for climate-health-energy nexus and building design strategies in meeting future climate, energy, and health demands. Integrate and advance the interdisciplinary knowledge of energy management of the built environment, health and well-being of older persons, and climate change. Write scientific publications. Work in close collaboration with and health experts from partners from Germany, Japan, UK, Senegal, Taiwan, Uganda, USA.Content-related inquiries regarding this position can be directed to

Master/Diploma degree in interdisciplinary disciplines, such as sustainability, architecture, environmental and energy management, sustainability studies, business management, health care management, or open to any related discipline. Knowledge of or interests to apply future digital, technological or innovative applications related to health and care of older persons. Knowledge, practical experience, or interests to develop prototypes of innovations (a concept, product, service application, etc.) to be tested in society. Knowledge of or interests to learn about energy management or energy retrofit in buildings, or finance management regarding long-term care insurance or relevant social welfare systems. Excellent fluency in English in writing and speaking. Interest in stakeholder interaction, teamwork in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
