Audiovisual Technology Lab in Huawei Munich Research Center is developing innovative technologies on media sensing, processing and coding, and computer graphics. You will contribute to these activities being inserted into an international and experienced team of researchers.

Senior Engineer – HDR Video and Image Coding - 12-month Leased Labor (m/f/d)

To support our research activities, we are looking for (hopefully) experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated new colleague (m/f) who enjoys research and development of image and video coding algorithms, more specifically related to High Dynamic Range and Wide Color Gamut image/video coding. The Senior Engineer has the chance to join strong international research team, he/she will have a possibility to attend the international standardization meetings, present the developed technologies to the international community. This position requires strong programming skills and assumes that research activity will be accomplished by implementation to reference SW, testing and demonstrations. Our team actively participates in and leads JPEG AI standardization, knowledge and understanding complexity of NN-based algorithms would be very helpful.

Your mission

• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of image/video compression and coding.
• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of image/video signal processing.
• Participate in international standardization and promote Huawei's technologies to standard.
• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of artificial intelligence.
• Implement the innovative algorithms into the reference software, conduct comprehensive test.
• Generate papers, technical reports, patents.

Your areas of expertise

• You have (or will soon receive) PhD in electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, mathematics or physics
• You have a deep interest and proven record of scientific research achievement in the topics related to video compression and artificial intelligence.
• You have knowledge in color representation formats (YUV, XYZ, HVS, LAB) and HDR-TV formats (PQ, HLG, BT2020/ BT2100); knowledge of color science and photometry is a plus.
• Additional knowledge of international video coding standards (e.g. HEVC and/or VVC) and standardization experience is a plus.
• You have understanding for basic principles of CNN structure and training
• You enjoy working in a team and you like to collaborate with researchers to develop creative solutions
• You are fluent in English (written and spoken)
• You have good understanding for visual quality metrics
• You have excellent software skills (C/C++, Python, Pytorch, Tensorflow, Matlab)
