The Clark lab is seeking highly-motivated candidates for a DFG-Funded PhD research position (E13/65%, full time equivalent) at the Institute of Cell Biology and Immunology (IZI) at the University of Stuttgart, together with the Stuttgart Research Center for Systems Biology (SRCSB).

The Clark lab combines high resolution live cell imaging, quantitative analysis and mechanobiology to understand intestinal cell function and dynamics and the role of cell and tissue mechanics in intestinal homeostasis and disease. These studies involve state-of-the-art culture techniques for intestinal organoids derived from mice and human patients as well as in vivo mouse models.

As part of this PhD position, the successful applicant will undertake a project exploring fundamental aspects of the interactions between inflammatory and mechanosensing pathways in the intestine. An experimental background in cell biology or mechanobiology is required. Experience working with primary organoids and/or mouse models is highly advantageous. The applicant should be self- motivated and able to independently develop and execute project-related aims. Good communication skills are required. The working language is English.

The University of Stuttgart is one of the leading technical universities in Germany and offers an inclusive and family-friendly environment. The Institute of Cell Biology and Immunology provides state-of-the-art equipment and the chance to work in an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative environment. The institute also is a key pillar for cellular analytics and biophotonics within the Stuttgart Research Center Systems Biology, one of the largest German inter-faculty infrastructures for systems biological research that brings together experimental and theoretical groups. The project will also include close interactions with clinicians and researchers at the University Hospital Tübingen and other regional and international collaboration partners.

The Clark lab and the University of Stuttgart are committed to providing an inclusive working environment regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. We especially welcome applications from individuals from historically under-represented groups.
