Role: Financial Controller

Location: Berlin, Hamburg, or London (Hybrid)

The organisation is Europe's largest specialist investor and developer of freehold, grid-connected "powered land," with a development pipeline exceeding 9 GW across the UK, Ireland, Germany and Italy. Its operations span three core areas: developing land for renewable generation and storage, delivering data-centre-ready powered land, and managing a long-term, index-linked ground-rent investment portfolio. The current estate includes 1.25 GW of powered land across 36 owned sites, supporting a prospective £125 million investment portfolio with a GDV of more than £1 billion. Backed by a £40 million acquisition and development facility, the business is continuing to scale rapidly through major battery storage, renewable energy and digital-infrastructure projects.

As part of this growth, the organisation is now seeking a Financial Controller to support its evolving financial structure and play a key role in driving the next phase of expansion within a high-impact, future-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in line with IFRS/GAAP standards.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support project financing, investment decisions and long-term business planning.
  • Manage financial controls, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements specific to the renewable energy sector.
  • Oversee project cost tracking across development, construction and operational assets, ensuring accurate allocation of capex and opex.
  • Support debt and equity financing activities, preparing financial packs, lender reporting and covenant monitoring.
  • Work closely with project development, engineering and asset management teams to align financial reporting with project milestones.
  • Implement process improvements, automation and system enhancements to support efficient scaling of the finance function.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors and financial institutions.
  • Lead and mentor members of the finance team.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role, ideally within renewable energy, infrastructure or related asset-heavy sectors.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience working with IFRS/GAAP.
  • Solid understanding of project finance, capex-heavy project structures and long-term financial modelling.
  • Demonstrable experience managing financial reporting for multi-project portfolios.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and financial acumen.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across technical, commercial and operational teams.
  • Proficiency with modern ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel or modelling tools.
