Energy Systems Optimization Engineer
vor 2 Wochen
Understand real-world energy challenges and turn them into intelligent optimization solutions that make energy systems more efficient, resilient, and sustainable.
You'll focus on the physics, economics, and control of local energy assets, transforming real-world data into smart automated decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Optimization modeling: Develop and extend deterministic or stochastic optimization models (e.g. MILP) for hybrid systems including PV, BESS, EV charging, CHP, heat pumps and flexible loads.
- Product development: Turn real-world energy problems into product capabilities. Go from idea to prototype to production feature by defining requirements, exploring solution options, and collaborating with engineering to deliver reliable APIs and automated workflows.
- Energy systems analysis: Evaluate system configurations, efficiencies, and operational data to understand real constraints and improvement opportunities.
- Control strategy design: Convert optimization results into robust EMS control logic that operates reliably under dynamic conditions.
- Simulation & evaluation: Develop scenario simulations to test optimization strategies against real-world disturbances (e.g. weather uncertainty, market volatility, grid constraints).
- Continuous improvement: Iteratively refine models and constraints based on on-site feedback, measurements, and performance KPIs (cost, CO₂, grid exchange, etc.).
- Own Delivery End-to-End: You'll work onsite-first in a cross-functional team with short cycles and fast feedback. From idea to deployment, you drive and own every step of the process.
- 3+ years of professional experience in energy systems engineering, operations research, and optimization for physical systems.
- Strong background in power and/or thermal systems, ideally with hands-on exposure to industrial sites or distributed energy resources.
- Deep understanding of electricity markets and energy economics, ideally including algorithmic trading, market bidding, or virtual power plant (VPP) operation.
- Proven ability to build, validate, and deploy optimization models using frameworks such as Pyomo or Linopy and processing input and output data using e.g. Pandas.
- Proficient in Python, writing clean, maintainable, and production-ready code using modern development workflows (GitHub, testing, CI/CD).
- Great at communicating in a concise and intuitive way to the rest of the team.
- Thrives in a fast-moving environment and comfortable switching between modeling, simulation, and engineering as priorities shift. Pragmatic, driven and impact-oriented.
- Bonus: Time-series forecasting
- The excitement of working in a driven start-up team, where your contribution truly matters.
- A secure position in an innovative company with long-term prospects
- Competitive salary with additional benefits such as EGYM Wellpass
- Great team culture & events: Summer parties, Christmas celebrations, and regular team gatherings
- Prime location: Office right next to Theresienwiese in Munich (home office days possible)
- Creative freedom: The opportunity to contribute your ideas and actively shape the future of the company and the field of energy optimization
- Keep growing by solving hard, real-world energy problems alongside senior teammates, through hands-on experimentation and production-scale systems.
