For our client, we are looking for a "Senior Embedded VoIP Engineer (C/Linux)" (m/f/d)
Project Description
For our client, we are seeking an experienced Systems Developer to join our engineering team. The mission is to bridge the gap between legacy telephony and modern communications. You will be responsible for designing and developing the core software for a new Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) solution that seamlessly converts analog phone signals into high-quality VoIP calls.
You will work on a Linux-based embedded system that interacts directly with hardware components (FXS/FXO ports). Your code will manage the conversion of voice signals, handle call signaling (SIP), and ensure that data packets travel securely and efficiently over the network.

  4. Location: Remote with on-site workshops in Düsseldorf, Brazil and USA
Responsibilities
  1. Core Development: Design, code, and debug high-performance, multi-threaded C applications in a Linux environment
  2. VoIP Implementation: Implement and optimize VoIP protocols (SIP, RTP, RTCP, SDP) to ensure reliable call setup and teardown
  3. Hardware Abstraction: Write low-level code to interface with SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Circuit) and DAA (Data Access Arrangement) hardware
  4. Audio Processing: Work on Digital Signal Processing (DSP) tasks, including echo cancellation, jitter buffering, and packet loss concealment to ensure crystal-clear audio
  5. System Optimization: Tune the Linux kernel and network stack for low-latency, real-time performance
Experience & Skills
Programming & Operating System:
  1. Expert C Programming: Deep understanding of memory management, pointers, multi-threading (pthreads), and inter-process communication (IPC)
  2. Linux Proficiency: Advanced command of the Linux CLI, shell scripting, and toolchains (GCC, Make, CMake); experience developing on and for Linux embedded targets
VoIP & Telephony:
  1. Protocol Knowledge: Deep knowledge of SIP (RFC 3261) and RTP/RTCP; ability to read a Wireshark trace of a failed call and immediately identify the issue
  2. Media Codecs: Experience implementing or wrapping audio codecs such as G.711 (a-law/u-law), G.729, Opus, or G.722
  3. Open Source Stacks: Familiarity with libraries like PJSIP, Sofia-SIP, or oRTP
Networking:
  1. L2-L4 Networking: Solid understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, and DHCP
Language Skills:
  1. Excellent English skills, both written and spoken
Nice-to-Have Skills:
  1. NAT Traversal: Understanding the complexities of VoIP over the internet (STUN, TURN, ICE, SIP ALG)
  2. Embedded Build Systems: Experience with Yocto Project or Buildroot for creating custom Linux images
  3. Kernel Development: Experience writing Linux device drivers, specifically for audio or network interfaces
  4. Security: Implementation of SRTP (Secure RTP) and TLS for encrypted voice communications
  5. Legacy Signaling: Understanding of analog signaling standards (DTMF detection/generation, Caller ID FSK, Pulse dialing)
