CLIMATE+TECH ☉
is an AI-driven climate think tank working at the intersection of climate science, data, and technology. We build open, research-based tools that support fact-checking, information integrity, and democratic resilience.

We're currently advancing the
Climate Fact-Checker
, an open-source framework for climate and political claim verification — and we're inviting experienced contributors to help shape its next phase.

This is a volunteer role. The project is currently unfunded, but actively developed in collaboration with academic and practitioner partners.

About the Work

The Climate Fact-Checker is evolving from a climate-focused system into a broader framework that can also support
political claims, civic information, and democracy-related fact-checking
.

Contributors typically engage where they add the most value — whether that's improving the core codebase, contributing research, or helping align the framework with real-world fact-checking needs.

Examples of contribution areas include:

  • Developing and maintaining
    high-quality open-source software
  • Translating academic research into usable methods and algorithms
  • Extending the framework to new domains such as political communication and civic information
  • Collaborating with fact-checking organizations and researchers to refine requirements
  • Exploring research partnerships and experimental directions

This is a collaborative, research-driven project — any suggestions welcome.

Research & Academic Context

The project is developed in collaboration with researchers across universities and disciplines, including work with:

  • Prof. Markus Leippold
    — climate finance, climate risk, data-driven climate analysis (University of Zurich)
  • Prof. Anton Gollwitzer
    — political psychology, polarization, political behavior (BI Norwegian Business School / Max Planck Institute for Human Development)
  • Dr. Vera Schmitt
    — explainable NLP, AI transparency, language-based analysis (TU Berlin, XplAINLP)

This collaboration grounds the tool in current research while keeping it practical and open.

Who This Is For

This role is best suited for people
already working in relevant fields
who want to contribute their expertise to a meaningful open-source project, such as:

  • Software engineers, data scientists, or ML/NLP practitioners who value clean, maintainable open-source code

  • Practitioners in fact-checking, civic tech, or information integrity who want to help shape tooling rather than just use it

Additional skills like writing, outreach, or stakeholder engagement are welcome, but the
