Software Tester

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Software Tester/QA
(m/f/d)
to join our team in ensuring the highest quality of our cloud-based flight optimization software. This software is designed to help pilots optimize flight paths, reduce fuel burn, save time, and enhance situational awareness in real-time. As a QA Tester, you will be responsible for testing the software's functionality, performance, security, and user experience, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and reliability, particularly in the critical context of aviation operations.

You will work closely with the development team to design, execute, and automate test cases, identify issues, and ensure that the product meets both aviation industry standards and the unique needs of our customers. Your contributions will play a key role in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the software used by pilots worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manual and Automated Testing
• Develop, document, and execute manual and automated test cases to validate functionality, usability, and performance of the flight optimization software.
• Conduct functional, regression, and integration testing to ensure that the software performs as expected and meets the defined business and technical requirements.
• Design and execute performance testing to assess the software's ability to handle varying loads and real-time operational demands in the aviation environment.
• Create and maintain automated test scripts using appropriate tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Junit, PowerShell, Jest) to streamline the testing process.
• Aviation-Specific Testing
• Work closely with the product and engineering teams to understand aviation requirements for flight optimization, fuel efficiency, flight planning, and situational awareness.
• Test aviation-specific features like route optimization algorithms, real-time data processing, and flight path visualization, ensuring that they meet aviation standards and perform under real-world conditions.
• Understand the aviation industry regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA) and ensure that the product adheres to safety and compliance standards.
• Bug Reporting & Issue Tracking
• Identify, document, and track software defects in detail using tools like AzureDevOPS, JIRA, Trello, or Bugzilla, ensuring that each issue is thoroughly described with steps to reproduce, expected behavior, and potential impact.
• Collaborate with the development team to ensure timely resolution of bugs, providing clear feedback and working on retesting fixes.
• Prioritize defects based on severity and impact to the customer or the aviation workflow, ensuring critical issues are addressed first.
• Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams
• Work closely with the development, product management, and design teams to gain a clear understanding of features and functionality, ensuring comprehensive test coverage.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to stay aligned with the development progress and project timelines.
• Contribute to the refinement of product features by providing feedback on usability, edge cases, and potential user experience improvements during testing.
• Test Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain comprehensive test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test results, to ensure transparency and traceability of testing efforts.
• Provide regular test status reports, including test progress, defect trends, and areas of concern, to key stakeholders.
• Ensure test cases are regularly updated and aligned with the evolving product roadmap, ensuring thorough coverage of new and modified features.
• Continuous Improvement of QA Processes
• Proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and methodologies, seeking ways to increase test efficiency, coverage, and effectiveness.
• Stay updated with industry best practices, tools, and techniques in QA automation, performance testing, and aviation software.
• Collaborate with the team to define and implement QA standards, and support the development of new testing strategies as the product scales.
• User Acceptance Testing (UAT) & Release Validation
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to validate new features from a user perspective before release.
• Ensure that all new features and updates are thoroughly tested and validated in real-world scenarios to guarantee readiness for production deployment.
• Validate that the product is compliant with aviation regulations and ensure it's ready for release according to the defined acceptance criteria.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Aviation, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in software testing or quality assurance, ideally in a cloud-based application or aviation-related software.
• Hands-on experience with manual testing, including test case creation, execution, and defect reporting.
• Experience with automated testing tools (e.g., PowerShell, Jest, Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, TestNG).
• Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and experience working in Agile development teams.
• Familiarity with aviation operations, flight optimization, and fuel efficiency concepts.
• Solid understanding of regulatory requirements in the aviation industry (e.g., FAA, EASA) and how they affect software development and testing.
• Experience with bug tracking tools (e.g., AzureDevOPS, JIRA, Bugzilla, Trello) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills to report issues clearly and work cross-functionally with teams.

Preferred:

• Experience with cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and mobile applications (iPad/Windows).
• Knowledge of aviation safety and certification processes, particularly as they apply to flight optimization software.
• Familiarity with performance testing tools and techniques to simulate real-world loads and usage scenarios.
• Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and integrating automated tests into these workflows.
• Experience in User Experience (UX) testing and understanding user interaction in critical aviation scenarios.
