Role Description

The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that enable efficient collection, storage, and analysis of large datasets. This role ensures data integrity, accessibility, and security to support business intelligence, analytics, and machine learning initiatives. The Data Engineer works closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to transform raw data into actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for collecting, processing, and storing structured and unstructured data.
  • Implement ETL/ELT processes to ensure reliable and efficient data flow across systems.
  • Build and optimize data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud-based data storage solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity by implementing validation and monitoring procedures.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business teams to understand data requirements and provide timely solutions.
  • Optimize database queries, storage, and retrieval performance for high-volume data environments.
  • Implement data security and access controls in compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for data architecture, pipelines, and processes.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data infrastructure issues proactively.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in data engineering and cloud computing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in data engineering, software development, or database management.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Proficiency with SQL and experience with relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with data warehousing solutions (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery) and ETL tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • English proficiency required; Japanese skills are a plus for Japan-based roles.
  • The ideal candidate is analytical, technically skilled, and proactive, capable of building robust data infrastructure that supports business insights and data-driven decision-making. The Data Engineer plays a crucial role in enabling organizations to leverage data efficiently, ensuring reliable, scalable, and high-quality data solutions.
