for 1 February 2026 we are looking for aResearch Associate (m/f/d) -

Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiterin

to conduct research within project Nanoporous metal-water hybrid nanomaterial for hydrogen-tuned mechanical behavior (A1) as part of the BlueMat Cluster of Excellence. The position is full time and fixed-term until 31 January 2029. The remuneration is in accordance with salary group 13

TV-L

(collective agreement for the public service of the federal states).

You will explore making macroscopic samples or device components from nanoporous metal, as the active component in acoustic-metamaterial-based devices. Equally important is characterizing and developing a fundamental understanding of the hydrogen-enabled, open-system tunable mechanical properties, both elastic (for function) and plastic (for mechanical stability and integrity of the device component).

YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS

• Applying various approaches to dealloying for the production of macroscopic, load-bearing bodies of nanoporous metal with complete miscibility for hydrogen at room temperature
• Identification of suitable alloy systems and of suitable corrosion approaches
• Microstructure characterization using imaging methods and diffraction
• Investigation of mechanical behavior in situ as the function of hydrogen content
• Development of explanatory approaches for your observations on structure development and properties

YOUR PROFILE

Essential qualification

• Completed doctorate in a materials science subject and a masters degree in said field

Required knowledge and personal skills

• Curiosity and teamwork skills for working in interdisciplinary teams
• Very good English required (at least B2/C1 level according to CEFR) – German is not mandatory
• You have in-depth knowledge and practical research experience in the fields of alloy corrosion in liquid metals and aqueous media, metallurgically motivated alloy selection, production and conditioning of alloy systems, nanoporous metals, X-ray scattering, and mechanical properties of metals
• You have the ability to comprehend new scientific content and present it in an understandable way in lectures to scientific audiences

Desired knowledge and personal skills

• You have already demonstrated your ability to write scientific publications, especially in English
