**Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH)** - **BIH QUEST Center**:
- The position is based at the BIH QUEST Center for Responsible Research, which aims to increase value and reduce waste in biomedical research. The student assistant will work with members of the Meta-research and Automated Screening Group to conduct studies, and contribute to the development of new tools designed to screen scientific papers for common problems. Student assistant activities may extend into a masters thesis project. Applicants should note that meta-research is different from meta-analysis. Meta-research, or science of science, can help us to improve science by identifying common problems with the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of scientific studies. We can use this information to develop targeted solutions to improve scientific research.

**Working field**:
- The student assistant's primary role will be assist with a meta-research study by reviewing published clinical trials and abstracting data about factors that influence study quality, according to standardized protocols.
Additional activities may include:
Qualified participants may help to run a participant-guided, “learn by doing” meta-research course: This role requires excellent skills in working with people. Course participants learn about meta-research by working together to design, conduct and publish a meta-research study. The student assistant’s role would include working closely with class participants to facilitate consistent progress, eliminate road blocks and ensure that the class is working together as a team. The student assistant may also work on the class research project.
Assisting with the development of automated screening tools: The team is currently developing tools to screen publications for problems with data visualization and adherence to reporting guidelines, and provide authors with customized feedback to improve reporting. **Requirements**:
- Essential skills include:
Attention to detail, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks in a consistently high quality manner
Knowledge of clinical trials
A willingness to learn about meta-research and strategies for improving transparency and reproducibility in published papers
Applicants interested in assisting with the learn by doing course will need skills for team building and managing people and the ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances
Prior experience with meta-research or systematic reviews is beneficial, but not required
