At Sofi, an artisanal bakery in Berlin’s Mitte district, the art of breadmaking meets the slow movement’s emphasis on craft, origin, materials and process. Our pastries, bread, cakes and seasonal specials are made using traditional methods and carefully sourced ingredients. Opened as a collaboration between Danish restaurateur Frederik Bille Brahe and Slowness in 2021, Sofi operates by a holistic philosophy in which aesthetics, atmosphere and overall brand identity form key parts of the quality we offer our customers.

As we continue to expand our offerings, we are seeking a skilled Head Barista with specialty coffee experience to develop and lead our new coffee department in line with our philosophy. As the Head Barista at Sofi, you will play a pivotal role in curating a coffee program that matches Sofi’s overall commitment to mindfully sourced produce and craft. You will be responsible for crafting outstanding coffee beverages, managing inventory, training staff, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and efficiency within the coffee bar. The position presents a rich opportunity to excel in your field, while becoming part of our vibrant international team working at the vanguard of contemporary food and hospitality.

**Responsibilities**:
Crafting Exceptional Coffee Beverages
- Prepare and serve a variety of specialty coffee beverages with precision and consistency.
- Demonstrate expertise in espresso extraction, milk frothing, and latte art techniques.
- Ensure that every cup of coffee meets our quality standards and reflects our commitment to excellence.

Managing Coffee Department Operations
- Train and mentor staff members in all aspects of coffee preparation, customer service, and cleanliness standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the coffee department.
- Provide ongoing guidance and feedback to ensure that baristas deliver exceptional service and uphold our brand standards.

Customer Engagement
- Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, providing personalized recommendations and ensuring a positive experience.
- Educate customers about our coffee offerings, brewing methods, and flavor profiles to enhance their enjoyment and appreciation of our products.
- Actively seek feedback from customers and use it to drive improvements in our coffee program.

Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and hygienic environment at all times.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling of food and beverages, as well as maintenance of equipment.
- Conduct regular quality checks to ensure that all coffee beverages meet our standards of taste, appearance, and consistency.

**Qualifications**:

- Previous experience as a head barista or lead barista in a specialty coffee setting.
- SCA Training or certificate big plus
- Extensive knowledge of different coffee varieties, brewing methods, and flavor profiles.
- Proficiency in espresso extraction, latte art, and milk texturing techniques.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, and inspire a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
