Associate Director of Animal Operations

Due to internal progression, an exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for an **Associate Director of Animal Operations** at our site in **Münster, Germany**.

The Münster site has approximately 300 employees and is a leader in Europe for non-human primate research.

Reporting to the Global Head of Laboratory Operations, as **Associate Director of Animal Operations**, you will have two direct reports and be responsible for circa 100 staff responsible for the technical and/or scientific conduct of the in-life portions of toxicology studies to include monitoring animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance. You will set the vision and strategy for future development and growth for the department, driving a culture based on high levels of animal welfare, quality research and science, great customer service and teamwork. You will work to build the careers and development of the staff, helping them to achieve their aspirations and goals.

**Key Duties**:

- Assigns resources (personnel, space, equipment) as needed to meet budget expectations.
- Oversees the design, and maintains facilities in full compliance with animal welfare regulations.
- Develops an operational plan which identifies the areas in which the department will concentrate its research efforts. Implements the necessary strategies to effect the operational plan.
- Initiates, plans and implements staff development programs. Develops department capabilities and resources to meet both present and future needs.
- Implements appropriate affirmative action, salary administration and staff communication programs within the department.
- May lead marketing development activities in research areas critical to the department.
- Determines and establishes department organizational structure and supervisory relationships.
- Monitors progress toward meeting departmental goals and objectives, and takes required corrective action.
- Provides technical or scientific expertise in facility design, animal welfare regulations, technical training or laboratory animal management.
- Works on a wide range of problems where causal relationships are difficult to establish and the use of creative thinking is required.
- Reports all animal care concerns and becomes involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary.

**Education**:

- BS degree in Life Sciences. Advanced degree (MS, PhD, DVM) is beneficial.

**Skills / Experience**:

- Significant demonstrable experience managing a team and having direct reports.
- Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals to include experience in the husbandry and use of non-human primates in research.
- Skilled in performing presentations and leading meetings.
- Effective time management, planning and budgeting skills.
- Ability to influence and negotiate.
- Problem solver that can take the lead in challenging situations.
- Ability to speak fluent German and English
