**You’ll make an impact by**
- Developing a prototype Industrial Virtual Switch (IvS) for virtual PLC deployments
- Implementing support for industrial automation and safety protocols (e.g., PROFIsafe)
- Conducting extensive benchmarking against state-of-the-art cloud switches
- Identifying and optimizing performance bottlenecks for latency and jitter reduction
- Deploying and testing the prototype in Siemens' Industrial Edge platform
- Contributing to the evolution of industrial automation through IT/OT convergence

**Your success is grounded in**
- **Education**- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- **Experience & Skills**- Strong Linux knowledge and system-level programming
- Advanced networking expertise
- Proficient programming skills in C
- Understanding of industrial automation principles
- Experience with DPDK is a plus
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies
- **Ways of working**- Analytical and systematic approach to complex problems
- Independent and result-oriented work style
- Strong documentation and presentation skills
- Ability to work in an innovative research environment
- **Languages**- Fluent German and English communication skills (both written and spoken)
