The Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy is a research institute belonging to the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB is the legally responsible body for eight non-university research institutes in natural and life sciences within Berlin with approximately 1900 employees. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association. The IT department with currently 8 staff members runs the central IT infrastructure and delivers IT services to the scientists and the internal administration. The IT department has a vacancy for a **Network and Systems Administrator (M/F/d) **Job profile**: - Developing concepts and administration of the internal network (LAN, WiFi). - Administration of firewall systems, VPN solution, gateways and proxies - Proactive monitoring of network and systems - Developing and implementing IT security solutions - Administration of the virtualization infrastructure and Linux servers **Requirements**: - University degree in computer sciences or related field; alternatively: completed vocational training as IT system technician and several years experience in the field - several years of professional experience - Comprehensive knowledge in network protocols (L2-L4) and WiFi networks - Profound skill in the administration of network devices and servers - Programming skill in at least one scripting language (e.g. _perl _, _python _) - Good knowledge of virtualization platforms and IT security **Beneficial (but not a must) are skills and experiences** - with switching systems made by _Brocade _or _Extreme Networks, _ - with NextGen firewall systems made by _PaloAlto _, _FortiNet _oder equivalent, - with _VMware _and _RedHat Enterprise Linux _ - and a first knowledge in SIEM and NAC solutions. You are assumed to work within a challenging scientific environment with its inherent diverse demand, will support our users with modern collaboration tools and implement open yet safe channels of communication within the scientific community. We expect good communication skills, service orientation, ability to work independently, and willingness to learn. It is also essential to have a proficient knowledge in spoken and written English and German. **Offer**: The payment is according to the German TVöD salary scheme in public research institutions. The position is a full time (39 hours/week), non-time-limited position. We offer an interesting and versatile career giving many options for professional gain.
