Document Control Lead

**What to Expect**

The Document Control Team’s primary objective is to support the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) group for the timely, accurate and efficient preparation and management of documents. They control the numbering, sorting, filing, storing and retrieval of both electronic and hard copy documents produced by technical teams, projects, or departments in the most efficient. The goal of document control is to ensure that users can rely on the information in the documentation and that it is up-to-date, reliable, checked, and formally approved. In additional access to and management of access control is critical for business operation

Tesla is seeking a seasoned Document Control Lead (m/w/d) with relevant construction experience to develop and lead a highly efficient document control team to support the buildout of Tesla’s global facilities and infrastructure. This position will be directly responsible for supporting the execution team by managing engineering, construction, and other project documents from the design phase to project close out.

**What You'll Do**
- Develop and manage a highly efficient Document Control Team as well organize a program document control management system (currently Aconex) to support the EPC Group.
- Test & Support the inhouse development of a new document control management system.
- Improve the document processes for an efficient Document Control System.
- Work with Tesla Team, (sub)contractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with the Tesla document management system
- Review incoming document transmittals and document register for non-conforming documents. Correct as necessary to ensure the register remains clean and compliant.
- Create and manage approval of project documents; publish daily, weekly, or other reports and logs as needed identifying open workflows, mail items, submittals, and other documents.
- Work with project resources to ensure capture of all relevant project documents and (sub)contractors, suppliers during contract closeout to ensure all project documents are received prior to releasing retention
- Provide training to project resources as part of the normal onboarding process..
- Maintain physical document control library and update the project document control plan.
- Management of all contractor and vendor submissions with all deliverables and ensuring a progressive handover of information.
- Proactive management of project milestones in relation to documentation requirements including bottleneck analysis and improvement process design.
- Evaluate comprehensive list of document control systems, processes, flows, and integration point, conformance to standards and long-term storage requirements on systems.
- Prepare and coordinate project documents register and metadata for seamless transition upon completion of the project.
- Evaluate on-site document control system, policies, and procedures, and integration with offsite document control system.
- Update and maintain the document control plan in accordance with evaluations, best practices, and Tesla guidance.
- Train and enforce the document control plan.
- Manage site wide drawing management needs.
- Other tasks as assigned or delegated.

**What You'll Bring**
- BS Degree in Engineering, Construction, or other relevant industry and/or evidence of exceptional ability, or equivalent
- Extensive experience in engineering, construction management, and document control: preferably in industrial, manufacturing and/or high-tech industries.
- Understanding of key construction disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
- Previous experience with document control systems, ideally Aconex
