Modern super-resolution microscopy techniques such as STED microscopy enable the analysis of protein distributions on the nanometer scale. Thus, previously unknown changes in the structure and protein clusters within patient cells can be investigated. Automatized image data acquisition allows recording large collections of microscopy image data under a multitude of conditions in drug discovery screens. The resulting data must be analyzed in a statistically robust way to extract relevant features that will signal changes in the pathological condition of an illness. The aim of this department is to combine these methods (super-resolution microscopy, efficient automated recordings and statistical data analysis) for a better understanding of cellular changes in diseases of the central nervous system and cancer. We want to detect neurodegenerative diseases earlier and help design drug screenings that will be able to identify new therapies for diseases.
**Was Du bei uns tust**
- Create and extend software to automatically and efficiently record model samples with super-resolution microscopes (high throughput automation at high resolution)
- Set up automatic pipelines of machine learning/statistical analysis algorithms to process the recorded high throughput microscopy data
- Compare and integrate results obtained from automated microscopy with existing pharmaceutical datasets.
- Work in an interdisciplinary and international environment,
- Support cooperation partners from industry and medicine
**Was Du mitbringst**
Highly motivated and have a strong interest to work in applied research, the interface between mathematics, computer science and medicine, and industry.
- PhD-students furthermore:
- Hold a Master’s or equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Computer science, Mathematics, Physics or related fields
- Have strong programming skills (Python, Matlab, R,..)
- Have a sound statistical analysis background
- Have experience with machine learning
- Are proficient in the English language (written and spoken)
- Your professional qualifications are complemented by a quick grasp, structured and independent way of working and a good team spirit
**Was Du erwarten kannst**
Employment and social benefits are based on the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund, E13 65%). The starting date is flexible. The position is initially limited to one year. The weekly working time is 39 hours.
