At Merck Healthcare KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, we are dedicated to advancing science and technology to improve the lives of patients worldwide. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead our Cell Bank Laboratory in the Research Unit Oncology.

**Position Overview**:
In this pivotal role as the Head of the Cell Bank Laboratory, you will oversee a team of research associates and scientists, coordinating critical activities related to cell banking and spearhead the development of innovative _in vitro_ cancer cell line and organoid models. You will play a crucial role in laying the foundation for groundbreaking research projects while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Lead and manage the Cell Bank Laboratory team, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of cell bank activities, including cell culture, cryopreservation, and quality control to ensure operational excellence.
- Develop and implement cutting-edge cancer cell models and organoid culturing systems to support our research projects.
- Support RU Onc projects by establishing and running standard assay protocols.
- Ensure compliance with Good Research Practices (GRP) in all laboratory operations and maintain rigorous documentation standards.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and provide expertise and guidance for cell line-related matters.
- Oversee cell line licensing aspects within the organization and ensure proper and compliant cell line use.
- Oversee documentation and regulations related to GMO projects (S1 and S2).
- Mentor and train laboratory staff, promoting professional development and scientific excellence.

**Who you are**:

- PhD in Biology, Biotechnology or related field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a laboratory setting with a focus on cell banking, cancer research, or related areas
- Strong understanding of regulations and guidelines governing cell culturing and cell banking, incl. Good Research Practices (GRP) and cell line license requirements
- Familiarity with the operational requirements of a GMO facility & experience in drafting risk assessments
- Basic understanding of the Drug Discovery process as well as _in vivo_ and _in vitro_ pharmacology
- Good knowledge and experience in project management
- Proven leadership skills with experience in managing a team of scientists and laboratory staff
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, proficiency in German is a plus, enabling clear conveyance of complex information
