Doctoral Researcher/PhD
The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (75 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 75 %).
The project is a part of the research training group RTG 2271 “breaking expectations”. This project investigates how humans adapt their motor control in response to expected and unexpected perturbations of the environment in order to reach their action goals. In particular, the project aims at uncovering the cost functions whose minimization describes the adaptation process. Formalizing adaptation as cost function minimization allows for the transfer and comparison of this project’s results to agents with non-human bodies (animals, robots). Machine Learning and Virtual Reality are relevant methods of this project.
**Tasks**:

- scientific research services in the RTG 2271
- contributions to the self-administration of the RTG 2271 (organization of retreats, workshops etc.)
- contributions to teaching in year 3

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to - 2, 1 WissZeitVG.
**Profile**:

- MSc-degree or equivalent in Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Physics or related fields
- programming experience, e. g. in Python, to be demonstrated by relevant projects
- experience in computational motor control is advantageous and may be demonstrated by a pertinent MSc/BSc thesis
- english language skills at least on B2 level
- german language skills at least on B2 level, or willingness to acquire German language skills
- willingness to contribute to academic self-administration

Disposition to achieve a scientific doctoral qualification is expected.
