One essential part of the integrated drug discovery process and clinical development is the discovery and validation of translatable biomarkers for the confirmation of target engagement, efficacy, patient stratification and diagnosis by using state-of-the-art platforms and access to patient materials. These efforts are supported by the global Translational Biomarker department.
Evotec is now seeking a highly motived and creative talent with a background in biomarker discovery and validation to join the global team and further develop the department. As such we are searching for:
VP Translational Biomarkers (f/m/d)
Full-time and permanent
Your key responsibilities:
Reporting into the Senior Vice President of the Global Translational Biomarkers department and residing in Hamburg, the VP Translational Biomarker will:
- Lead all global activities and further refinement of the strategy related to the set-up and execution of our Human Biorepository including, but not limited to, sample acquisition, storage, QC, compliance, contracting and ethical considerations. This also includes close interaction and communication with our sample management and research informatics organization
- Lead, in a matrix setting, the global colleagues as well as directly lead the local team in Hamburg in relationship to human sample management and acquisition as well as histopathology/immunohistochemistry
- Drive forward the strategy and mission of the Translational Biomarker department with regards to technology advancement, innovation, and expansion; implement technology and innovation where needed to improve efficiency, automation, and ensure new biomarker platforms are brought to the department
- Play a key scientific role in multiple projects in the field of (clinical) biomarkers in various therapeutics areas and drive forward the biomarker strategy from Lead Optimization projects to the clinic and provide consultancy where needed
- Provide guidance on assay validation needs and criteria to internal and externals where needed. Closely work with our GxP facility to ensure best practices and workflows between our non-GxP and GxP assay set-up and validation
- Successfully represent Evotec externally to potential new clients and collaborators with regards to our biomarker strategy and capabilities
- Provide strong guidance and mentoring, critical assessment and pragmatic recommendations on biomarker projects and assays while securing quality of science
- Interact effectively across functional, geographic and cultural boundaries within the company and externally
- Support the SVP in managing capacity planning, budgeting, cross-site communication, and quality initiatives
Your ideal qualifications:
- PhD degree in biochemistry, pharmacology, biology, or another life science field
- Many years’ experience (after post-doc) in either a biobank or biorepository organization, pharmaceutical / biotechnology company, or equivalent experience in a clinical/diagnostic laboratory
- Excellent knowledge of all relevant ethical laws and regulations related to human sample acquisition and management and an established network of vendors/contacts
- Expert knowledge of biomarker discovery and development
- Expert knowledge in science and current trends in one of the following therapeutic areas: Oncology, Immuno-Oncology, Neuroscience, or Auto-Immune Diseases (AID)
- Experience in managing LO and pre-clinical projects
- Ability to work with a great degree of autonomy and independence
- High energy and personal dynamics to drive innovation
- Skilled in managing multiple projects and to build trust and respect throughout the organization
- Organizational talent, strong analytical and commercial skills, strategic and operational thinking
- Excellent communication and presentation, interpersonal, influencing and networking skills
- Ability to advise and guide colleagues in a decisive, but supportive and encouraging fashion
- Excellent command of the English language; German or French is a plus
