Global High School Coordinator

**Summary of Position**

The High School Coordinator (HSC) is primarily responsible for ensuring the success of the daily functioning of the High School Abroad (HSA), Gap Year Abroad (GYA), and High School Summer Abroad (HSSA) programs. The HSC is also accountable for managing and overseeing operations to support students, host families and school representatives for the HSA, GYA, and HSSA programs. The HSC represents CIEE with integrity, accuracy, and in the spirit of its mission. The HSC is a highly interactive role, collaborating with colleagues across the company to accomplish goals and responsibilities, including program staff in the US and resident staff in Berlin.

**Main Responsibilities**

**Program Management and Supervision**
- Responsible for the organization, preparation, and successful implementation of orientation sessions for HSA, HSSA and GYA
- Responsible for the organization and implementation of overnight cultural excursions for HSA, HSSA and GYA programs
- Supervise team of temporary summer Program Leader staff
- Maintain a good level of communication with students to monitor program satisfaction and serve as the first point of contact for any student requests for special exceptions, complaints, appeals, etc.
- Maintain a good level of communication with host high schools and host families for all programs
- Advise participants concerning their academic programs at their host school, facilitate registration, monitor changes in enrollment and participants’ academic performance
- Exercise quality control in academic instruction and integrity in CIEE-based courses, and assess appropriate degree of difficulty, workload and grading standards for CIEE-based courses
- Manage relationship and negotiate terms with local schools, organizations and institutions, and collaborate with Homestay and Community Coordinator
- Instruct Global Competency Courses for GYA and promote intercultural development among all students
- Review program evaluations and adjust program design or execution, as necessary
- Write end-of-term/year reports to summarize all important aspects of program
- Coordinate CIEE response to incidents that impact program participants (group and/or individual)
- Work with Portland staff to develop program budget
- Collaborate with local partners and staff to coordinate paperwork and administrative tasks for the residence permit process

**Recruitment, Training and Managing Host Families and Schools**
- Support Homestay and Community Coordinator in the recruitment of new host families for HSA, HSSA and GYA students
- Ensure all Health, Safety, and Security standards and policies are followed, e.g. police background checks for host families
- Recruit local high schools willing to enroll and support HSA students

**Health, Safety and Security**
- Work with the Student Support Coordinators on developing and maintaining emergency preparedness processes and a crisis response plan for the Global High School programs in Berlin
- Review an annual safety audit covering relevant health and safety information needed by participants, their parents, and schools
- Provide appropriate advice and warnings to participants during the program in order to help them minimize risk and enhance their individual safety
- Contact victims of crime, illness, and harassment on behalf of the Global Institute and identify resources for them
- Communicate serious crime and other safety related incidents to the Support Department at the CIEE Portland Office
- Serve as the primary point person and lead response for participants, staff, and faculty on high school programs for all major incidents and emergencies
- Document cases in Salesforce and update relevant details for all incidents involving student participants
- Participate in the weekly rotation of on-call duty for the study center as a whole

**Knowledge and Skills**
- Intercultural - must demonstrate cultural sensitivity; experience studying or working abroad, preferably in the US; a good understanding of the US educational system. Experience working with American youth (14-18 years old)
