The position is based at the BIH QUEST Center for Responsible Research, which aims to increase value and reduce waste in biomedical research. The student assistant will work with members of the Meta-Research and Translational Bioethics group (Prof. Dr. Dr. Daniel Strech) to support the conduct of meta-research studies and contribute to the development of projects to promote responsible research practices. Meta-research, or science of science, can help us to improve science by identifying common problems with the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of scientific studies. We use this information to develop targeted solutions to improve scientific research.

**Working field**:

- Specific tasks include:

- Screening of journal articles and/or other data sources according to standardized protocols for meta-research studies
- Performing manual quality checks on gathered data
- Assisting with the statistical analysis of extracted data, for example regarding responsible research practices
- Screening and summarizing of relevant scientific literature
- Supporting qualitative workshops and interview studies. This may include taking notes during activities, correcting and de-identifying transcripts, assisting with qualitative analysis, co-organizing, and communicating with partner institutions

**Requirements**:

- Attention to detail, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks in a consistently high-quality manner
- Conceptual, analytical, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to provide arguments for decisions made
- A willingness to learn about meta-research and strategies for improving transparency
- Very good communication skills (oral and written)
- Very good English and German language skills (oral and written)
- Prior experience with qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups, workshops, qualitative data analysis) is an advantage, but not required
- Prior knowledge of quantitative methods and programming using Python and/or R is an advantage, but not required
- Experience in administration or management in any field is an advantage, but not required
- Previous knowledge or experience with (German) medical and/or research organization and policies is an advantage, but not required
