**The Awards Management Unit (AMU)**

Established in January 2016, the AMU is a global unit with staff based in Bonn, Berlin, New York, London, Nairobi, and Amman. It has responsibility for identifying, securing, and handling all funding from statutory/government donors. The unit is organised into five pillars: Strategic Partnerships, Programme and Grant Support, Compliance and Policy, Business Development and Training.

The AMU is a bridge between donors and the field: providing expert technical advice to the field, while maintaining portfolio-level visibility to ensure consistency and compliance, and manage risk. This unit ensures that donor compliance policies and procedures are implemented consistently, and supports all staff working across the award management cycle for all restricted funding from global government sources.

The unit operates within a matrix management system across teams in Germany, the US and the UK, driving functional integration between all relevant units and staff, in collaboration with the Senior Vice President AMU, Vice President, AMU, and the Senior Vice President for Europe in relation to overarching issues with European donors.

**The Purpose of the Role**

The Deputy Director, Global Awards & Frameworks, will be responsible for the oversight of the team that manages IRC’s existing multi-region, multi-component awards with key donors, which currently include Sida, Irish Aid, German Federal Foreign Office, and Disasters Emergency Committee. The Deputy Director, Global Awards & Frameworks will be responsible for leadership and management of the high-performing and effective Global Awards & Frameworks Team, taking a collaborative approach to leading and coordinating cross-regional departmental initiatives. The position requires an experienced and motivated team leader with a track record of overseeing strategic institutional donor relationships; managing teams and delivering on departmental initiatives.

**Key Accountabilities**

**Oversight, growth and support the management of IRC’s multi-region, multi-component awards**:

- Lead the team in developing and maintaining positive, strategic relationships with donors to sustain global impact - providing insight/information into donor developments in addition to managing complex escalating issues as appropriate.
- Lead and ensure that key donor deliverables such as organizational profile or external evaluations are fulfilled in line with donor requirements and IRC policies.
- Alongside the AMU Leadership Team, ensure that new donors and framework/multi-country/multi-region opportunities are appropriately vetted and formal approval and engagement criteria are identified, agreed and communicated.
- Act as donor relationship manager for other multi-region opportunities and deliver on contractual and management requirements through working with the Regional Program & Award Support Teams.
- Represent the IRC at donor meetings and conferences, presenting the work of the organisation.
- Support and lead (as delegated) the development of internal organisation-wide working processes for different components of the awards in the portfolio.
- Overseeing budgets secured for the coordination and management of awards in the portfolio.

**Line management duties**:

- Lead and manage an ambitious and high performing team, acting as a trusted and accountable team lead, mentor and professional resource, including promoting collaboration and ensuring accountability. In addition to acting as a knowledge bank for the team sharing insights on grants and contract management, donor relations and compliance among others.
