As the Head of Engineering in Customer Inbox, you will lead a group of 4 engineering teams with a future facing structure, hire senior talents, collaborate with product management to define roadmaps, provide leadership, technical direction and coaching of the entire Communication Platform domain.
You will be part of a team that inspires, informs, and engages consumers and enables Zalando teams to reach out via personalised direct communication on different channels using our in-house multi-tenant, multi-channel Communication Platform that is deeply integrated with core components of the Zalando Fashion Store. This team owns and develops the technical product for message sending further and is closely collaborating with the Direct Marketing Team as a key commercial stakeholder.
**WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED**
- **Leadership**: Lead, manage, inspire and grow multiple teams. As a leader of leads, it will be your responsibility to coach your directs to become the best they can be. You will provide direction, guidance and amazing working conditions for cross-functional delivery that involve multiple engineering teams, serving a broad range of use cases. You will be accountable for the long-term architectural roadmap and the reliable operation of the department's production software systems.
- **Strategy**: Engage with stakeholders and other leaders across the company to deliver an outstanding product to satisfy the needs of our internal and external customers.
- **Innovation**: Ensure that development of the full Communication Platform domain is simplified and scales. Follow the latest developments in technology & engineering and convert into a future-proof technology strategy.
- **Growth and Scale Mindset**: Help us shape the engineering culture across Zalando by developing and hiring engineering talent and facilitating engineering processes that create remarkable impact for our customers and partners at scale.
**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- An empathetic and egoless leader who excels at developing, coaching, and mentoring engineering leaders and engineers.
- 7+ years of professional experience in an international, cross-functional environment, as well as a proven track record building and scaling engineering teams within a mid or large scale organisation (20+).
- Good understanding of technical landscapes, a solid technical background as well as multiple years of hands-on coding.
- You're excited by the idea of helping teams do the best and most effective work of their careers.
- Understanding of software delivery KPIs (release velocity, lead time,...) and how to influence them to create a high performing technology organisation.
- Ability to share technical ideas and direction across the organisation and a proven ability to influence decision making at all levels and in a variety of contexts.
- Experience working with different functions, experts, and levels of leadership.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills.
